Tour Programme Details
Day Prior to Departure
A thorough safety briefing will be held in Cape Town during which the team will go through each element of the experience and check that you have the proper equipment and clothing and that you are fully prepared for an unforgettable journey.
Departure and Touring Day
The charter flight departs from Cape Town International Airport at 23:00 for the overnight flight to Antarctica which takes approximately five and a half hours. During the flight you can experience the African night turn to day as the polar circle is crossed into 24 hours of continuous sunshine. Arriving at the specially equipped ice runway at 05:00 you become part of an elite group of people who have stood on the continent of Antarctica, a place usually reserved for scientists and polar explorers.
The guides will be there to meet and transport you by specialised 4x4s to the Guesthouse situated on the edge of an immense sea of ice. Here you can choose from and depart on a number of activities ranging in length and difficulty. These include gentle treks to the 200ft cliffs on the edge of the oasis offering amazing views out to the coast. You can also visit the nearby ice grottos – natural tunnels winding through the glacier – or enjoy a sauna at the Russian Science Base !
After approximately 10 hours on the ice and a champagne lunch, it’s time to return to reality, departing on the return flight to Cape Town at 16:00.
