Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, is one of the iconic 7 Wonders of Nature. Enjoy a full day hike starting at the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and then hiking up Skeleton Gorge to the Table Top. This hike is not for the faint hearted as it includes some steep ascents, boulder hopping and a ladder section. All hiking on Table Mountain is weather dependant.
This is a full day hike setting off from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and then walking through the indigenous forest that cloaks Table Mountain’s eastern flank. The winding path leads to Skeleton Gorge, a deeply scored ravine that steepens as you ascend, leading to a ladder section followed by a small stretch of boulders to negotiate. Stop for a gourmet picnic lunch en route (included) before continuing along Smuts Track to the Table Top, walking through indigenous fynbos and past waterfalls, whilst enjoying sensational views of Cape Town, False Bay and the city’s surrounding mountains. At Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point, the views open up to take in Table Bay and Robben Island. The easy way down is with the cable car but for the dedicated adrenalin junkie the option of an abseil descent, at additional cost, is available.
