Situated east of Cape Town, South Africa, the seaside resort of Hermanus has been acknowledged by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and Greenpeace as being one of the world’s top three whale watching sites, when whales, migrating over 4500 kms from the Antarctica, arrive here in early June each year to mate and calve before resuming the return journey in early December.
This informative and educational whale watching trip departs from Hermanus harbour on board a purpose built catamaran with guests’ viewing and comfort in mind. A whale specialist guide accompanies all departures while an on board videographer captures a souvenir DVD which is available for purchase after the tour.
Duration of the tour varies from one and half to three hours depending on where the stars of the show are to be found. The boat stops 50m away from any whale sighting, observing not disturbing, but being naturally curious the whales normally approach the boat – an inspirational experience to be treasured.
